A stain glass life
Bibles were rare, hand copied, and written in Latin. Even if one could find a Bible, out side the church, the average layman of the time couldn’t read. The average layman would come to church, hear a service, most of the time in a language he didn’t speak, and try the best they could to get the most out of it. They’d confess their sins, give some money, and leave without much spiritual feeding. But the windows were another matter. The windows back then were works of art. Made by craftsmen that felt they were doing a service for God. Many of today’s windows are beautiful also, but are made more for profit then out of love (some don’t even portray scenes, just different color glass). But back then the windows told stories. The birth of Christ, the resurrection, crucifixion, walking on walking, parting the Red Sea, the Garden of Eden, etc. The windows spoke in a language everyone could understand. They filtered light to form a unique story for the world to admire.
Each piece was hand crafted, each had their own color, shape, texture, hue, and form. No two pieces alike. Every piece had it’s place and function, all a part of the whole, but each it’s own, and if missing, would stand out and weaken the effect. And that’s what a Christian life should be like. We Christians should be the “stain glass” of the Church, the body of Christ. We need to portray the story of the Gospel in our everyday life. The light of Christ should filter though each one of us. Each in our own unique way. Like the glass, each one of us is crafted different,
each of us have our own texture, color, shape, style, form, tone, and beauty.
How God shines though each of us is totally different. And like with the windows, if any of us are dirty, or missing, we take away from the whole. Individually each posses their own attributes, but none can obtain their full potential until they are crafted together with the rest, to form a window to show case God’s light though. Some pieces will sometimes draw more attention then others because of placement, but none are more important in the whole. All are just as noticeably missed if they aren’t present, leaving a hole that can’t be replaced by anything but the piece, that the "Craftsman" made for it. For more on this check what the Bible has to say by way of Paul in 1 Cor 12:12-31 If you haven’t received Salvation you can’t shine at all, but God has a way to “clean you up”, to bring out the full brilliance that you were intended for. But first you'll need to be washed, and that only takes a moment.
